Sound Ideas

For our title sequence we could use a similar soundtrack to the clip above that is from Paranormal Activity 4. This is good because this films genre is thriller which means it fits in well as its from the same genre as our title sequence. This could be used right at the beginning when we are seeing the distribution logo and then it could mix/fade into another soundtrack.

This soundtrack would be good as its almost hypnotic and has different speeds to it meaning that certain areas will drag on. This would be good as the music could reflect the character and his personality. The sped up sections could represent the girl character as she is scary and quick sounds build up suspense. It also sounds eerie which means it fits in with our genre (thriller) quite well.

Initial Shots

These are the shot types that we think we will use when we close our eyes and imagine what our title sequence should look like. The first picture you can see is a close up of a kettle.  This is where the steam will come out for a graphic match to another object throughout the title sequence. The titles will come up in the empty space to the right top hand corner of the screen. This corresponds to the fourth picture of the extreme close up of the cigarette. This will be where the graphic match will happen. We will also see the titles coming out from within the smoke. The second picture you can see is an establishing shot of the front of a house. This shows the audience where the scene will be set so they know where they are and what it looks like from the outside. The third picture that you can see is a close up of a mirror in the bathroom. This mirror will be steamed up which means it would almost be another graphic match to the other shots. It will then have the title of our film written across it with someones finger and then suddenly wiped away.

Film/Plot Synopsis

Plot Synopsis by sophie xxx on GoAnimate

Animated Presentations - Powered by GoAnimate.

This is a video of our plot synopsis for our title sequence and the rest of the film. It tells us about the character and what is wrong with him. It also tells us that he can't stop the hallucinations  so he has to contact someone from the past.  It also tells us about the point in the film where everything takes  turn for the worst and goes down hill.

Settings for my opening sequence

This would be a good setting for my opening sequence as we want the opening to be filmed in a bathroom. This is because we will have someone coming out of the bath. A bathroom would be good as we can change the lighting to make it fit in with the genre of our film. It is also good because it means the weather won't interrupt our filming as it would be indoors. This would be good as the girl could easily come out of the bath as its something you wouldn't expect to happen.

This is the kettle we could use for the match on action of the steam, this could be good as its an old fashioned style kettle. This could fit in with our genre as it could almost be used in an eery way as it is so old fashioned. This would connect with the girl in the bath as she is meant to be centuries old.

This could be another setting as the lights could be changed so that they are lighter and darker when it is necessary. This could be where the main character of the film has his cigarette or takes his pills which stop his hallucinations.

Example Questionaires

These sample questionnaires show us that the majority of the people we asked were aged between 16-24 meaning that this fits in with our target audience for our film. It also shows us that what they expect from the beginning of a thriller is for it to have slow music and editing. They also want to be introduced to a few characters so they can get a feel for the film. For the setting of the film they expect it to be shot either in a Forest, Big house or hospital as these are usually shown as quite isolated places so that not many people would be around to witness anything that happens throughout the film.

Vox Pops

These are our vox pops which show's three different people answering our main questions. We asked these questions because they make it so we know how people feel about thrillers. They also tell us the key conventions of what people expect to see within this genre.

The silence of the lambs (1991) - own genre research

The silence of the lambs

In the first scene, we can see the surroundings of the isolated forest which sets the scene. This is an establishing shot where we can see it is winter. Also, we can see that the forest is isolated which means that any character that comes into this scene could of be of danger as there is no one or anything around.

We then see a character coming to the scene, as the person gets closer we can see that the person is a middle aged woman. We can see that she is climbing up a rope which means that she is putting herself in danger. Also we can see that she is alone which means that she is vulnerable to her surroundings. This shot of her climbing up the rocks is shot using a dolly/tracking shot to show the action more clearly.

The colours are mainly dark green, brown and blacks. This could reflect how she is feeling, meaning that she is feeling low and possibly depressed. It is also shot in a high angle shot to show that there is a higher authority present then her.

This is a close up of the woman where we can see her sweating. This shows her determination in the exercise that she is doing. She is running around on an assault course which isn't stereotypical of a woman as she is getting sweaty instead of shopping.

When the title comes up it is very bold and and is black with a white outline. The white could represent the purity of the girl whereas the black reflects the death of what is to come. This is also the same colour as the background of the image.
