Wallander

WALLENDER

Cinematography:

At the beginning of the clip, we can see a birds eye view which is also called a helicopter shot. This shown as as we are getting closer to the scene/setting. We can see the surroundings are isolated and has a lot of empty space for stuff to happen. The camera goes almost over the car in the scene and then gets sucked back again almost like reality. There is a close up of the key ring and taxi pass so that we get some sense of who the man is but not all is revealed. The key ring shows a picture of the man and whom we presume is his son. This makes us feel empathy towards him as he looks like a family man and not someone that should be murdered. When we see this shot, we can see the shadows of the two girls through the car window. Afterwards we see the gap in between the two girls which still shows the car with the doors open almost like they cant get the car and man out of their heads. This could almost be the master shot/establishing shot.

Misé en scene:

In this clip the colours of the taxi and the girls jackets contrast. The girls jackets are black which represents death whereas the taxi is white which can mean pure. The taxi driver could be seen as innocent as he is a licensed cab driver  has a good job and seems like a good family man. This means that we as an audience do not get the feeling that he is capable of rape on the two girls present. Around one of the girls neck is an old fashioned razor blade which could be easily mistaken for a dog tag. This portrays some sort of violence across to the audience.

Sound/Music:

When we are inside the taxi, you can hear the sound of the radio faintly like the life is still slightly inside the man. We can hear the diegetic sounds of footsteps, walking and heavy breathing. The music is 'dark' and 'low' but when we get close to the taxi, the music gets really high pitched like a knife sound. This can be foreshadowing what happens later on or whats just happens. The high pitched sound makes the audience jump.

Editing:

At certain point in the clips there are really fast cuts to show how face paced a death can be and to also show how quickly the persons life can be drained from them. During these clips there are no dialogue this is probably because the girls are in shock and have nothing to day about what just happened. The clips keep cutting between guns and cars to show the links between them.
